UZI VARON / A JOURNEY INTO CHIAROSCURO
The works of this collection are the result of a long study of the Art of old masters of renaissance and baroque painting as well as the works of old Flemish still-life tradition. The aim is not to imitate famous masterpieces but rather to capture the magic and spirit of some of the best visual art ever created.
In these works, new meets the old, baroque and renaissance meets digital photography. The result is a new aesthetic approach to our common cultural heritage.
The source of these particular artworks can be traced all the way back to my school years. In the early seventies, I had the good fortune of having passionate literature and art teachers who managed to capture my teenage brain with tales of heroes and heroines, exotic foreign kingdoms, wars, and young lovers. They expanded my spiritual world far beyond the limits of the kibbutz I was born in. The ancient world of the Bible, Greek and Roman mythologies, and classic Art caught my attention and interest in a lasting grip.
Those classic tales were the inspiration of my long search for a personal way to express my thoughts, visions, and feelings. I felt I had the way to tell those stories without words, subtitles, sound, or motion with photography.
