Description
“My creative work is marked and affected by my being an immigrant who has been uprooted from one country (Brazil) to another (Israel).
As a multi-disciplinary artist, I mainly paint and create objects and installations. My objects are built from readymade material, and primarily I prefer to use materials that are meant to be recycled, just before they become unwanted or thrown into the garbage.
While trying to accommodate myself to a new place, a new language, and a new culture, I found myself attracted by certain species of trees that seemed to me alien to this new landscape, mainly tropical palm trees and Eucalyptuses. These trees were imported from other places for different reasons: the palm trees were meant to decorate and enrich Israeli gardens, and the Bauhaus buildings that populate beautifully widely the city of Tel Aviv.
Alongside this cultivated nature, I also focus on urbanism. My works have a dual existence: on the one hand, they manifest reductive formal structures and colors, and on the other hand, the works have a conceptual statement that has to do with contemporary urban culture metaphors.”
Born and raised in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Currently lives and works in Tel-Aviv, Israel. I have studied interior design at Ort, School of Engineering, Tel-Aviv, and later on, studied art at the Avni College for the arts, in Tel-Aviv. I have continued my research and studies for many years by working with prominent Israeli artists at their studios. Combining two different cultures, worlds, and questions regarding the sense of belonging still influences my entire work. I create objects, installations as well as paintings. Usually, I create large scale paintings and objects. The subjects vary – from landscape to architecture to abstract. Aesthetics is a major focus in my paintings, objects, and Installations. Even when creating an object, I emphasize the quality and beauty of the object by using readymade material, as if it was jewelry. In this, I address questions regarding the importance of recycling in order to preserve the quality of living in the 21st century and how we should preserve the earth.
