NEVER AGAIN IS NOW!
In the words of Primo Levi, an Italian-Jewish chemist, writer, and Holocaust survivor:
“It happened. Therefore, it can happen again. This is the core of what we want to say.
This sentiment mirrors the purpose of our artworks. They echo the voices of the innocent.
Let’s not forget the historical truth. Let’s not give in to lies and Holocaust denial. An estimated six million, probably more Jews, were systematically exterminated during the Shoah. Not so long ago. With countless more people persecuted and murdered due to their ethnicity, political beliefs, or sexual orientation. These extreme ideologies were not confined to the walls of concentration camps or extermination camps. They were all part of a social structure of almost everything at the time, from university classrooms to workplaces in cinemas, literature, and even art.
And we know now and can see that antisemitic hate never was destroyed or disappeared. It is just the face of evil that changes, and that frightful face is now back. The Holocaust defies literature. We think we are describing an event, but we only transmit its reflection. No one has the right to speak for the dead. Still, the story has to be told despite all the many risks and possible misunderstandings. It needs to be said for the sake of our children.” – Elie Wiesel
Ruby Vava Venezia Dellert
Ruby Vava Venezia Dellert graduated from the University Saint Leo of Florida with an Associate in Liberal Arts. Psychology and political science were among her subjects of study. Additionally, she graduated from Graham Webb Academy as a master colorist and hair stylist. She is pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Cybersecurity at Thomas Edison State University.
She engages in Neo-Dada Art and New Surrealism, both of which reflect her sense of humor and innocence about life and death.
With her photographs, she reveals intimate moments of a woman reflecting in a mirror before her – mysterious, playful, but at the same time lonely, nostalgic, and lost in a labyrinth of dreams. She aims to express her child-like vision through her artistic style to create a fantasy inner landscape.
Like Cindy Sherman, Barbara Kruger, and Sophie Calle, this is me-too Pop Art. Throughout her ongoing project in recent years, “Selfish Selfies,” she documented herself as she went through depression, eating disorders, and suicide attempts and morphed into today’s attempted self, Vava. Selfish Selfies aims to inspire women of all races and cultures to embrace beauty in every form and accept that we can become whoever we wish to be through trauma and pain.
In her own words:
“Life is a game you should play well, and if you fall, you should play better the next time until the game is over.”
A slice of wisdom: Find peace, forgive, and live to the fullest! Be courageous and believe in yourself!
