Gerardo La Porta, aka “GiGi or Gilaporta,” was born in 1966 in a small town in Salerno, Italy.
Since childhood, he has been noticed for his artistic talents, having already been awarded at 9 in a school competition.
Despite his different school career, he studied everything related to Art secretly from his parents. He is very passionate about the artists of the Renaissance and later those of the ‘900; the detail of the technique and the expression are the points that he deepened the most. He began painting with his neighbor of the same age, who had the same passions, later during work breaks. He greatly refined the technique of oil paints, alternating with acrylics and watercolor.
His life changed suddenly: he decided to follow his passion for travel and started working on cruise ships, which would take him away for ten years. Instead, it gives him the opportunity to learn about new cultures, new countries, and all the Art in the world. Back in Italy, he felt the need to return to painting, to express and research new techniques in the world of Art.
His artistic expression is figurative Abstract, with very bright colors and full of nuances, alternating with Pop Art with developed lines. It recalls the passion for Africa, with very marked lines and colors, the nuances of those places.
His latest works have been included in the new expressive current called “Modern Impressionism,” where the overlapping of the brushstrokes recalls this style, also giving the three-dimensionality of the figures.
His works are exhibited in private collections in many countries, including Italy, the United States, France, Spain, England, Finland, Germany, Norway, Sweden, Romania, Greece, Morocco, and Egypt.
