George Anastasiadis | “Requiem for a Dream”, 2022
Original Art. Mixed media. Graphite pencils, ink, white charcoal (Stabilo Carbothello) on paper.
50 x 35 cm. Signed.
“Right in the center is a child’s face, he holds his fists tight. A headless ancient Greek statue (or, if you want, an old and forgotten wedding dress) stands behind him. Even further back, the black cloak of Death seems to be made of rock. Looks so heavy. All these are parts of the same whole.
Further in the background, the horizon is set by two horizontal white lines tearing the black. The upper half is glowing with fire and smoke. Down is a flat line parallel to the horizon. That particular dream is over. All remains are ashes and despair. So what’s left? The Soul. The soul is the fundamental ingredient that dreams are made of.”

George Anastasiadis was born in Thessaloniki, Greece, in 1968.
Anastasiadis works as a physical therapist in a public rehabilitation center for the disabled but likes to paint. He is a self-taught painter. His artistic journey started during high school, and he was lucky to have a fantastic art teacher, the beloved Nikos Paralis.
He automatically paints images that originate from the subconscious. Dozens of symbols and messages are hidden in his paintings, and he belongs to the surrealists he admires.
“Painting is a confession. It communicates with the world, a deposit of the artist’s soul. He hides “a little piece of the soul” in his paintings.”
George Anastasiadis believes everything stagnates, wears out, becomes sloppy, and dies. Everything that surrounds us and inside us is a harmonious and indivisible whole. We are immortal elements and parts of the universe. Nothing absurd or scary. Everything is simple and in our nature, just like art. His paintings come from his inner will to find and improve himself through his philosophical, rational, and metaphysical quests. His goal is to consistently evolve into a better version of himself.
He has taken part in many exhibitions in Greece and abroad, and his works have been awarded many times.
