Description
Amos Bonibay Sculpture & Visual Artist
Born 1960 in the northern part of Israel, a place that could have been described as Heaven on earth – I was introduced to the wilderness of nature with its wildlife all staged on the backdrop of ancient basalt rock formation. My attention to the surroundings became greater as the pace of growing up accelerated. Soon I found myself trying to express the beauty that surrounded me. The break of military service sent me across the country, where I collected impressions of a very different nature – The dry desert of the south, the very populated and humid mid-country all very different from the heavenly north. All corners of the country had something in common, namely, left me with an irresistible inspiration to create, be it sculptures using earth/clay or later a camera. Nowadays, I work in both mediums and various materials. My abstract approach finds inspiration in architecture and nature. Later travels in Europe and the US-supported my need to explore relationships between the “real world” and the “imaginary world.” Photographic exposures: In the process of creating a new image that combines many photos, I run through many of the photographs collected throughout time until I end up with a satisfactory choice. At times I choose “Oil paint look” that conveys the result to a classical impression.
Photographic Portraits:
Fascinated by the expressions of the human face, I try to give portraits my own “touch” through the choice of surroundings as well as light behavior. My more significant attraction is to fellow artists and people of the spirit, which I place in environments that fit their greatnesses.
Sculptures:
Inspired by architecture’s straight lines, my way of expression became abstract. I have studied modeling for three years by the danish sculptural Ole Bunton, which was a great inspiration for me as a “beginner.” The choice of material differs from work to work, but mainly wood, plaster, and bronze are favored.
