Art is about showing your emotions and that language is understood by all. Uriel Cazes’ poetic and delicate work also expresses a palatable sense of happiness to a wider audience. When we were first introduced by a friend in common, I felt what a sincere, humble, and talented artist he was. I then took to explore his contemporary work and his earlier art, discovering its wealth and significance. This comes from an artist outside of the mainstream, who only took inspiration from his own experiences, background, culture, and research. It is a body of work that would owe little to outside influences but rather feed itself.

Deeply poetic and very pictorial art. First and foremost, Uriel Cazes is a painter, and any of his sketches bear his distinctive signature. An art firmly rooted in the present, but also drawing on the past and looking to the future. There is a part of nostalgia mixed with a lot of discipline and experience; he is a painter totally about his time and an explorer of the unlimited space of dreams.

The sky is blue or white, the apple vividly colored, the silhouette of men, women, and children always showered with the divine and temporal light. The simple and profane story is traveling through space and time, taken from mythology, legends, and reality. Every creation, be it its medium or its dimension, comes with its share of happiness and peace, which is already the nicest compliment one could make.

All tributes to tenderness, humanity, tolerance, and modesty…Behind these faces and scenes, we perceive a space where every day is joyful, a deep desire to overcome our condition to reach a level of happiness made of simplicity.

The compositions set in the world theatre, the young or older characters, serene or worried, are for Uriel Cazes only a pretext to pictorial sketching. The gold, green, deep or luminous blue, grey, pearl white, or black that defines or underlines inform of the world around us but, more importantly, tell us about ourselves. Rare proximity. A radiant light illuminates his compositions; scrutinize these works, to read our story, the love of others, the fever and passion, but also the respect for the past and present. With this artist, it’s all about the happiness in painting and sharing.

To tell more with less, fewer brush strokes and movements, a pursuit that has paid off for Uriel Cazes. The modernity of his work isn’t to be found in the themes he covers, but in the way he layers the colors, the way he works with them and modulates, to add depths in the shadows and lights. As a result, we experience a body of work and a creator that is voluntarily removed from currents and trends.

Uriel Cazes is, above all, a narrator, an enchanter, and that is also where his biggest quality lies. His language is visual, merging the past and present. Strange chemistry between the brush strokes and the colors. A delicate and firm drawing technique serves a rich palette that elicits as many emotions. His personal spells conjure very old, pleasant, and appeasing resounding chimes in us.

Through work, success, and research, this language fine-tuned over the years, this writing so personal, poetic, intense, and conveying so much hope is a blinding realization.
